The Holy Spirit initiated and prompted the human authors who penned the words of scripture. His power enlightened and breathed out the very wisdom of God to accurately reveal His word to mankind.

2nd Timothy 3:16-17- All scripture is God-breathed (given by divine inspiration) and is profitable for instruction, for conviction (of sin), for correction (of error and restoration to obedience), for training in righteousness (learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately-behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage); 17- so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

-According to Paul, God is the ultimate source behind Scripture.

-Peter also acknowledged that the Spirit of God was behind the written word.

2nd Peter 1:21- For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

The Holy Spirit revealed the Truth to the writers of Scripture………..

Ephesians 3:2-5- assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was entrusted to me (to share with you) for your benefit; and that by (divine) revelation the mystery was made known to me, as I have already written in brief. By referring to this, when you read it you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which in other generations was not disclosed to mankind, as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets by the (Holy) Spirit.

-Paul explains that the truth of Christ has been revealed by the Holy Spirit, to the Apostles and Prophets.

Note: It is not just the parts of the Bible that deal with religious doctrines that are inspired, but each and every word from Genesis to Revelation. It is inspired by God, the Scriptures are therefore authoritative when it comes to establishing doctrine, and sufficient for teaching man how to be in a right relationship with God. The Bible claims not only to be inspired by God, but also to have the supernatural ability to change us and make us complete.

Since the Scriptures are the inspired Word of God, we can conclude that they are also inerrant and authoritative. A correct view of God will lead us to a correct view of His Word. Because God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and completely perfect, His Word will by its very nature have the same characteristics.

The Spirit Illuminates…………

Divine revelation would be useless to us if we were not able to comprehend it. That is why the Holy Spirit enlightens the minds of believers, so we are able to understand the truths of Scripture and submit to its teachings. Through the illumination of the Word, the Holy Spirit enables believers to discern divine truth.

Psalms 119:18- Open my eyes (to spiritual truth) so that I may behold wonderful things from Your law.

Note: The sobering reality is that it is possible to be familiar with the Bible and still fail to understand it. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day were Old Testament scholars, yet they completely missed the point of Scriptures (Read John 5:37-39).

In John 3:10, Jesus even responded to Nicodemus saying, “You are the (great and well-known) teacher of Israel, and yet you do not know nor understand these things (from Scripture)?”

Note: The same verses that establish the inspiration of the Scriptures also establish that it is both inerrant and authoritative. Without a doubt the Bible is what it claims to be—the undeniable, authoritative, Word of God to humanity.

Colossians 3:16- Let the (spoken) word of Christ have its home within you (dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being) as you teach (spiritual things) and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Those who have tasted God’s grace in redemption continue to grow in sanctification through the internalization of His word.
